Our History   United Wilmington Youth Foundation also known as UWYF, was founded in 1992 in response to the escalating gang tension with the objective to restore peace and create alternative programs.  UWYF was an important movement that needed to evolve in order to create a cease fire between rival Wilmington gangs; the East and West side following years of violence that had plagued the city. Today, United Wilmington Youth Foundation is an established 501 ©3 non-profit organization that works with existing partners to foster, build and encourage a more united community. The organization’s Motto “Commitment to Progress and Unity in our Community” is committed to the future of Wilmington and the youth through its guiding pillars; Cultural Awareness, Education, and Youth Empowerment. UWYF is a non profit organization centralized in Wilmington, CA. Robert A. Trani, a lifelong Wilmington resident and the Founder of UWYF realized that he needed to do something to end the violence between the East Side and West Side of Wilmington.  His Vision was to unite the community and hence, UWYF was born.  Robert’s dedication to serve the youth was fueled by his own personal experiences and decisions that he made as a youth and his engagement with the gang life.  After being sentenced and serving years in state and federal prison, Robert’s vision and passion to break the cycle of violence in his hometown community led him to partner with personal contacts, local city officials and local businesses to create a safe environment for the youth and the entire community. The goal for UWYF is to create programming and opportunities for the youth of Wilmington.  We welcome the residents of Wilmington to join us at our events as well as appreciate volunteers to assist us in making sure we have fun and successful events, activities and workshops.
